Haircuts for a cause
From a Truck to a Movement: Why We Are Here
In 2008, during the housing market crash, I found myself living in a truck with my two dogs. They were my world, my responsibility, and my silent moral support. While I was able to maintain my own hygiene and job, I was hit with a crisis no pet owner should face: my dog, Rashi, fell fatally ill with a brain tumor. Without the funds for emergency care, I felt the crushing weight of having no options for the creature who gave me everything.
I survived that chapter, but I never forgot that feeling. I realized that for those experiencing homelessness, a pet isn't just an animal—they are a reason to keep going.
Coming from a family of stylists and now as a licensed Barber Instructor, I saw a way to turn a routine task into a lifeline. Haircuts for Hounds was born from the belief that you shouldn’t have to choose between your dignity and your dog’s life. We’ve traded the traditional donation-only model for a sustainable social enterprise: you get a professional haircut, and those proceeds go directly to medical care and fostering for dogs in our community.

Who we are
Haircuts for Hounds is a Portland-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that bridges the gap between professional grooming and animal rescue. Founded by a licensed Barber Instructor with lived experience in the challenges of homelessness, our organization provides a sustainable way for the community to give back.
By simply maintaining your regular grooming routine, you are directly funding:
Emergency Veterinary Care for pets of individuals in transition.
Foster Support for rescued, neglected, or abused animals.
Community Outreach in partnership with local organizations like Blanchet House.

We believe that slow and steady wins the race, but we also feel the urgency of every animal in need. Whether you are a stylist looking to volunteer your time, a web designer who can help us polish our digital presence, or a community member ready for your next trim—your contribution matters.
You don't always have to give money to make an impact. Your time, your knowledge, and your voice help us build a world where no one has to face an emergency alone.
